Our aim is to create as perfect an environment as possible, where people can stay for a week, detoxify, nurture their bodies, minds and hearts and be supported to find better health and happiness. We believe in treating the WHOLE person, not just the symptoms, and know that we are all more than just our bodies; and so we combine the cleansing strength of the physical detox with emotional and mental healing too, to reach the root cause of your condition or symptoms. This is how we work with you during the retreats, always keeping in mind that you are an individual and will have have your own personal healing journey.
During a detox, usually the first and most obvious transformation you will notice is on a physical level, and many people detox simply for this benefit. Whether it is to lose weight, get rid of a skin condition, improve your digestion or gain more energy and vitality – fasting and cleansing tackles a huge range of symptoms.
However, deep cleansing works on ALL levels – something that may surprise first time ‘detoxers’ who may be expecting JUST a physical detox. Our detox retreat can (if you wish) be a period of deep transformation for you, a chance to discover, perhaps for the first time, a sense of who you really are.
Mind-Body Connection
At Detox International we continually witness just how incredibly strong the mind-body connection is and the physical–emotional link is nowhere more apparent than in the gut! When a client is having difficulty releasing on the physical level (i.e. colon waste) we usually find they are holding on tight on the emotional level. In this way, detoxifying and letting go of old emotional patterns will greatly improve the physical detox.
As you cleanse the physical body, you will also feel a cleansing of the mind, emotions, and entire being simultaneously. During a detox it is common for people to experience the resurfacing of old memories or feelings which are repressed and stored at a cellular level in the body. Repressed feelings have to go somewhere and often end up being stuffed down, and covered up with “comfort foods” (especially foods that tend to alter mood, such as sugar, chocolate, coffee, alcohol, fast food, refined foods e.g. biscuits etc.) If this sounds like you!, then during the retreat some old memories and feelings may emerge to be finally and fully experienced – and the result is truly healing. It is this ‘cleansing’ at the non physical level that helps you gain clarity and personal insight, and a sense of being emotionally ‘lighter.’
Detox – A mental rest
For some people, a detox week is as much a ‘mental rest’ as a physical cleanse – a chance to de-clutter your mind and re-establish who you are and where you fit in the world. On the retreat you will have the time, peace and the support to release negative thoughts and emotions which are preventing you from realizing your full potential. Many people look to deepen their spiritual connection through detoxification – after all, fasting and purification techniques have been used for centuries as aids to spiritual advancement. At Detox International we have a team of deeply committed therapists, nutritionists and counsellors, ensuring you are fully supported in your individual needs. You can take your detox to whatever level you wish as we are here to support and guide you.
The cure of the part should not be attempted without the cure of the whole. No attempt should be made to cure the body without the soul, and if the head and body are to be healthy, you must begin by curing the mind. That is the first thing. Let no one persuade you to cure the head until he has first given you his soul to be cured. For this is the great error of our day in the treatment of the human body, that physicians first separate the soul from the body. (Plato)
